About the

Papakaio Challenge

The Papakaio Challenge (formerly Papakaio 8 Hour Mountain Bike Challenge) began in 2018, when Papakaio School and the wider community came together to create an epic mountain-bike track at Willow Park. It has since become a much-loved North Otago event and the school’s biggest annual fundraiser.

After significant flood damage to the original track, 2027 marks a new chapter: a five-hour challenge on a shorter, more accessible course, with plenty of fun and community spirit. With food, drinks and entertainment in the Event Village, it’s a great day out both on and off the track.
